Keyword difficulty: useful filter, imperfect answer
Keyword difficulty estimates how hard it may be to rank for a query. It is most useful for prioritization, not as a substitute for reading the search results.
What KD tries to measure
Mangools says KWFinder's KD estimates first-page ranking difficulty using the link-profile strength of ranking URLs. Other providers use different formulas, so scores are not directly interchangeable.
Why a low score can still be hard
Intent mismatch, strong brands, specialized expertise, freshness and SERP features can make a query difficult even when a numeric score looks attractive.
