Keyword clustering: group searches that want the same destination

Keyword clustering is the process of grouping searches that can be satisfied by the same useful page. It helps turn a large keyword list into a smaller, cleaner site structure.

Start with intent

Ask what the searcher wants to accomplish. Lexical similarity is useful, but it cannot replace the desired outcome.

Use SERP overlap as evidence

If two queries repeatedly surface the same pages, that is evidence they may belong together. If results diverge, investigate whether the intent is different.

Prefer fewer stronger destinations

Avoid creating a page for every modifier. A substantial page can rank for a family of closely related searches when it fully satisfies the shared intent.
