Search volume: useful demand signal, not a traffic promise
Search volume estimates how often a query is searched in a selected market and period. It helps compare demand, but it does not guarantee clicks or rankings.
Volume is an estimate
Tool providers rely on different data sources and processing. Treat the number as directional, especially for low-volume, new or highly specific searches.
Look at trends
Monthly averages can hide seasonality and rising or falling demand. Trend charts help reveal when a keyword's average is masking important changes.
Evaluate value, not volume alone
A lower-volume query can be more useful when it has clear intent, realistic competition and a strong connection to what your site offers.
