Keyword cannibalization: when multiple pages compete for the same job

Keyword cannibalization is most useful as a diagnostic idea: multiple pages may be targeting or satisfying substantially the same search intent, making the site's preferred destination unclear.

Do not diagnose by repeated words alone

Related pages can naturally mention the same keywords. The stronger warning sign is when several URLs repeatedly appear for the same query family and serve essentially the same purpose.

Compare intent and content

Ask whether both pages need to exist. If each serves a distinct outcome, clarify their roles. If they duplicate the same outcome, consolidation may be cleaner.

Strengthen the preferred destination

Merge useful unique material, redirect obsolete duplicates when appropriate, and update links so the strongest page becomes the obvious destination.
